Acknowledgement of Country
We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of this land on which we stand, the Wulgurukaba and neighbouring Bindal people who are the custodians. We pray that we can walk together to a better future.
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers, Staff and Students
Hope your week has been an enjoyable one. There has been some relief with the hot weather of late, with the weekend and this week providing somewhat milder weather conditions. Despite this, students love to get out into the playground and run around, seemingly unperturbed by the heat. Please ensure they are bringing full water bottles each day, with reminders to fill them up often so as to stay hydrated. Staff will also be giving these reminders.
Our Prep Orientation morning was held yesterday, and it was wonderful to greet the new families and see the lovely faces of our 2023 Prep students as they entered the school and received their Prep Pack. While there was excitement, there was also some apprehension about going to the big school classrooms and meeting their new teachers. This nervousness was not limited to the Pre Preps, but could also be sensed from the parents/carers who understood what a big occasion this was for their child. Likewise, our Prep teaching staff were also eagerly anticipating meeting their 2023 Preppies. From all reports the morning was a success, with very few tears and a lot of excited chatter as parents/carers collected their children from the classrooms. While the Pre Preps were busy in the classrooms, parents and carers were ushered to the library for morning tea. This was followed by a presentation by myself and other key people in the school, including Mrs Taylor (APRE), P & F president, Sarah Ponti, OSHC Coordinator, Estel Brown, Tuckshop Convenor, Jeannine Williams and finally Rae from School Locker. I would like to thank all staff members who contributed to yesterday’s Prep Orientation morning, and particularly acknowledge our Year 5 and 6 Student Representatives. They did a fantastic job ushering the 2023 Prep families to the Prep classrooms, and were excellent at quickly locating the Prep Packs for each child. I had a number of positive reports from parents/carers about how welcoming the students were. While we farewelled the Preppies yesterday, we are very much looking forward to welcoming them back full time in 2023.
Remembrance Day is this Friday 11th November. The day was first observed in 1919 throughout the British Commonwealth. It was originally called ‘Armistice Day’ to commemorate the armistice agreement that ended the First World War on Monday November 11 1918 at 11 am, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. On Friday at 11 am, our students will pause for a minute’s silence and at 2:15 pm, they will gather to pray for peace in our world as we remember those who sacrificed their lives for others. Living in a country such as ours, it is easy to take peace for granted. One way we can honour the fallen is to continue to work for peace in our families and wider communities.
Finally, I would like to mention our recent Grandparents’ morning. Our staff were so pleased with the large number of grandparents who attended. Classrooms were full of grandparents taking part in activities and spending time talking to their grandchild/ren about their school work. After a special Grandparents’ Day Liturgy, morning tea was provided and grandparents were able to mingle and converse with one another. Grandparents’ Day at St Joseph’s Mundingburra is a vibrant community event which we look forward to each year.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
God bless
Tracy

St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal
Last week, some Year 6 Mini Vinnies students attended the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal launch. Over the next three weeks, classes will be collecting donations of food items to help brighten Christmas for those in our community who are experiencing hardships. This week students received a note specifying an item to contribute. If you would like to purchase additional gifts (toys or toiletries) these can be dropped into the office.
We appreciate your support and generosity.
Christian Meditation
Christian Meditation will take place on Thursday morning at 8:00am in the Library. Meditation is a form of sacred and silent prayer, known as prayer of the heart. It is a lovely way to start the day! Parents are welcome to attend.
Assembly
Our week 7 Assembly will be hosted by 2B. Our week 8 Assembly will be hosted by 4B. This assembly will be our Thank You Liturgy to thank all of our parents and family who have volunteered their time throughout the year.
Remembrance Day Liturgy
We will be holding our Remembrance Day Liturgy this week on Friday 11th November at 2:15pm.
May God’s blessing be with you all, Peta

Prep Orientation
Yesterday we welcomed our 2023 Prep students for their orientation morning. The children met with their teachers and enjoyed some time exploring what they will be doing in prep next year. Parent's attended an information session in the library while the children made new friends.
Bimbi Wadja
The Bimbi Wadja group came together for the second last time this year.
We created some beautiful Christmas baubles using Australian native plants, seeds and decorations. We also made some Christmas tree decorations using sticks, pom poms, stars and cotton.
They had a turn doing some scratch art and started making some Indigenous Christmas cards using beautiful paper from Indigenous artists.
Our last Bimbi Wadja get together is the 1st December, where we will celebrate our year with a Christmas party and some activities.
We created a beautiful leaf wreath during our lunchtime Indigenous activities, it is hanging on the art room door. We also started some Australian animal Christmas decorations. We will continue doing Christmas activities until the end of the year.
Library News
An amazing effort from everyone who purchased books from our pop-up bookstore at the Scholastic Book Fair 2022. Thank you so very much parents and students.
Our library benefited from the excellent sales this year, which have again generated scholastic points going towards the purchase of wonderful books for our St Joseph’s Library in 2023. The children loved the ‘book’ excitement and atmosphere, which builds wonderful memories and a love of books throughout their lives.
Who doesn’t remember the excitement of ‘Book Fair’?
Congratulations again to our ‘Lucky Draw Prize’ winners: Gwen (PREP B), Fletcher (1B), Charlie (3B) and Mila (5B).
Happy Reading and ‘Lest We Forget’.
