Term 3, Week 10 Newsletter
From the Principal
Dear Parents/Caregivers
I write this last newsletter item for Term 3 after the St Joseph’s Showcase and Concert event for Year 4, 5 and 6. What a wonderful display of learning, with the added bonus of the Concert’s entertainment value. Well done to all students and staff involved, it would be hard not to have a great day after this morning’s event. It was also pleasing to see the large number of parents and grandparents attend and witness them engage with their child in the classroom. Students were proudly showing their school work to parents, with explanations of what they had been learning throughout the term. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to tomorrow’s Showcase and Concert event for our Prep and Year 1,2 and 3 students.
Last Friday and Saturday I attended a Diocesan Assembly at the Holy Spirit School Hall. This Assembly was organised by the Catholic Diocese of Townsville, with the majority of Assembly Members being from parishes. Each parish was invited to send a designated number of parishioners with their priests or parish coordinators. Catholic school principals were also invited, as their leadership role has a vital connection to the local parish. There were people from Palm Island to the Mount Isa Region, and from the Ingham region to the Whitsundays.
The Diocesan Assembly is the next step in the Becoming New in Christ journey. It is a continuation of the diocesan-wide refocus on the essential purpose of the parish and its mission.
Throughout the year, parishes have been attending their own Parish Assemblies for the purpose of reflection and conversation around the Belong, Believe, Become ‘keys’. The aim of the Diocesan Assembly is parish renewal, through building on the collated insights which came from each parish after meeting and reflecting together. From the Diocesan Assembly process, Bishop Timothy Harris wants to be able to identify key common directions as a framework to guide the next steps for our parishes in the Becoming New in Christ journey. What is impacting upon our parishes’ priorities and values, planning and strategies, commitments and actions?
As a school principal, being part of this process provided many insights. The Catholic school plays a very important role in parish renewal, as the religious life of the school often provides a direct link to the mission and vision of the Church for many families. Our schools offer students experiences that will enable them to enter into a personal relationship with the Risen Christ as members of the Catholic community. This work is best not done alone, but in a partnership between the school, its staff, the parents, the priests, the parish community and the broader parish community.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our families a fantastic holiday break, and hope each one of you finds some time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends.
Have a wonderful week.
God Bless
Tracy

APRE News
Well, we have made it. Week 10 Term 3 and what a wonderful start to the week.
Mrs Herlihy, Mrs Connell and 2B led this week’s assembly with a beautiful liturgy on Creation. The children read beautifully about how the world is our responsibility. They led the whole school in singing about God’s Creation and how we are such an important part of it but we need to look after it. Thank you 2B for a very important message.
We had some very special visitors at our Assembly on Monday. Constable Chris Fenton was inducted as our own very special St. Joseph's Adopt-a-Cop. Thank you to Constable Fenton for taking on this role and we look forward to seeing you around the school. Constable Fenton joined in our Creation songs and our School song. What a great start.
