Acknowledgement of Country
We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of this land on which we stand, the Wulgurukaba and neighbouring Bindal people who are the custodians. We pray that we can walk together to a better future.
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers, Staff and Students
It seems another term has come and gone in the blink of an eye. Welcome to Week 10 of Term 2 and the countdown to school holidays.
The week began with a whole school Liturgy for NAIDOC Week (which St Joseph’s Mundingburra is celebrating this week), a time dedicated to recognising and honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme, ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, loud and proud’, honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture - with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our students have been engaging in various activities that deepen their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures. From cooking sessions and face painting to craft and origami activities, it is heartwarming to see the enthusiasm and respect our students have shown when taking part in these activities. A big thank you to Mrs Bortignon and all staff volunteers who are helping to make NAIDOC Week a memorable experience for everyone. A special thank you to Mrs Adeleah Evans and Mrs Lena Cole for their contribution to our celebrations this week.
Our annual Athletics Carnival was a great day for all involved, and we were certainly blessed with the weather. It was wonderful to see our students display enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and determination, with healthy competition evident at every event. Congratulations to all the participants and a heartfelt thank you to Miss Duyvestyn, our Joey’s staff and the parent / carer volunteers who made this day possible. Your hard work and organisation ensured a smooth and enjoyable day for everyone.
Last night a number of students took an important step in their spiritual journey by participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The night was an opportunity for reflection, forgiveness, and spiritual growth. We are grateful to Mrs Taylor, Mrs Plant, Mrs Bortignon, Mrs Cornish and the parish team for supporting our students as they received this special sacrament.
As we look forward to the upcoming school holidays, I encourage everyone to take this time to rest and recharge. It has been a busy term, and the break will provide a much-needed opportunity for families, students and staff alike to relax and spend quality time with family and friends.
Wishing everyone a safe, enjoyable and blessed holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back refreshed and ready for another big term, one which will include our Centenary Celebrations on the 22 - 25 August.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
God Bless
Tracy

End of Term Prayer
Loving Father,
as we come to the end of another term
we turn to you in confidence
and place any difficult relationships
into the healing hands of Jesus, your Son.
May the holiday be for us a time of rest and recreation
to help restore us and re-create us
in your image and likeness, as we enjoy
more of the love and presence of our families,
on whom we ask your blessing.
Amen.
May God’s blessing be with you, have a wonderful week.
Peta.

Great Barrier Reef Aquarium
Our school is supporting the community call to rebuild our beloved Great Barrier Reef Aquarium (formally Reef HQ). The Great Barrier Reef Aquarium is Australia’s national education centre of the Great Barrier Reef and across more than three decades has inspired and educated our students, built community pride and profile for our city, been a global leader in marine science, and generated more than $400M in economic contribution to our local economy.
With the Aquarium at risk of not reopening without full Federal Government funding, Townsville Enterprise has started a community petition and we call on our school community to take a minute support this >> Petition · Save Townsville's Reef HQ Aquarium - Australia · Change.org. Our nation’s greatest natural asset deserves a home to showcase our cities' world leading education and science.

Guidance Counsellors
With school holidays coming up, it is a good idea to start discussions with your child/ren about online gaming, as we see an increase in screen time during holidays. This School TV resource discusses things to be aware of when your child/ren are gaming online.
Young people might have a lot of fun playing online games, but parents and carers need to make sure they empower their child to make wise decisions and help them manage the risks. Numerous games can help your child become more coordinated, adept at problem-solving and multitasking, and help them develop social skills through online interaction with other players. However, it's also critical to comprehend what may go wrong and what might be harmful to your child. Carers need to play an active role in understanding and being aware of what their young person is playing online and who they are interacting with.
