Acknowledgement of Country
We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of this land on which we stand, the Wulgurukaba and neighbouring Bindal people who are the custodians. We pray that we can walk together to a better future.
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers, Staff and Students
We welcome all families, new and existing, to Term 3 at St Joseph’s Catholic School Mundingburra. It has been great to see students return safe and sound from a well-deserved holiday.
Each new term brings with it an opportunity for students to build on previous achievements and to place further attention to areas of growth. A new term also presents additional opportunities for our school community to further build on the positive culture that exists here at St Joey’s, particularly as we head towards our Centenary Celebrations in August (22nd - 25th ).
On Tuesday 9th July, the school held its Validation. Validation is part of a five yearly school renewal process which commenced last year with Verification. Catholic School Renewal is a process that enables school communities to examine the way in which they work together so that they can continue to develop and adapt their practice to better meet the needs of the children they serve.
During Validation on Tuesday, the school leadership presented information to a Validation Panel who also interviewed staff, students, parents/carers and the Parish Priest, Father Joshy. The day commenced with a school tour, followed by prayer in the Yarning Circle led by our Year 6 Student Representatives. Members of the panel (Validator, two school principals and a member of the School Board) also joined the staff for lunch in the staff room.
From the School Renewal process a five year Strategic Plan for the school is developed, the goals of which are reflected in subsequent Annual School Improvement Plans. This, along with the Validation Report, will be shared with our School Community once finalised. Preliminary feedback from the panel on Tuesday afternoon was pleasing, and I would like to thank the staff, students, Father Joshy and members of our School Board and P & F Committee who allowed time in their busy schedules to be interviewed.
The School Renewal process brings to the fore our mission and purpose. For our school to continue to operate successfully, it must be able to count on the unity of mission and purpose of all who belong. This is a whole school endeavour, which cannot be achieved by any one individual group. We rely on each of our students, staff members and families being able to actively contribute to a positive school culture and environment. Giving witness to our school Motto, ‘Love is Service’ is certainly a way in which this can be achieved.
In any organisation, problems arise from time to time. A school community is a complex body involving the Parish, a head office, school administration, staff, visiting specialists, parent/carer groups and students. As educators of children, we understand the concerns of parents/carers and we ask that parents/carers in return understand that the roles of the teacher continue to become more demanding and complex. The education of our students is a partnership.
Enjoy the rest of your week.
God Bless
Tracy

2024 Prayer Theme: Blessed to Serve
Bear with one another, help one another, and ever strive to serve God in a generous spirit. ~Mary MacKillop
Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week will be celebrated in Catholic schools next week in Queensland. This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day. The theme for this year’s celebrations is: Communities of Faith, Hope and Love.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
Sacramental Program
Thank you to those families who have dropped in items for our Winter Appeal. If you have anything you would like to donate please drop them to the office by Friday this week.
Assemblies
Our assembly is held on Monday morning at 8:45am in our Shelter Shed. Parents, families and friends are all welcome to join us. Our next assembly will be:
Week 4: 2A Catholic Education Week Liturgy
Week 6: Book Week Parade
Christian Meditation will take place each Thursday morning at 8:00am in the Library. Meditation is a form of sacred and silent prayer, known as prayer of the heart. It is a lovely way to start the day!
May God’s blessing be with you, have a wonderful week.
Peta.

From the Office
Is your child absent from school? Please notify the office via
- emailing absent@sjmbtsv.catholic.edu.au
- calling the office and leaving a message at the absent option
- parent/guardian can note the absence through Compass
A text message will go out at 9.30/10:00am to any parents whose child is marked absent without an explanation. Please reply to this text using one of the above methods. If your child arrives after 8.30am, they must pass through the office for a late pass so that if the role has been marked at the classroom, office staff can make the amendment for the arrival. We thank parents for assisting with this. Roles are marked promptly at 8.30am on Mondays due to assembly - students are required to collect a late pass before moving to assembly if they are late.

When a young person experiences the loss of a loved one, whether it be a beloved family member, a friend or friend of the family or a pet, they may grieve, respond or react in many different ways. No way is right or wrong. Grief is a process that we all experience differently and is often filled with many ups and downs. This School TV resource offers some suggestions around common questions that arise when a child is experiencing grief and loss.
Library News
Book Week 2024 this year has a wonderful theme – “Reading is Magic’, and is an exciting time for libraries around Australia! Jess Racklyeft is the creator of the 2024 Book Week official artwork around the above theme. Jess Racklyeft also has a shortlisted book in this year’s Eve Powell shortlisted category, called ‘Australia: Country of Colour’. Jess was inspired by the many amazing shortlisted books over many years of the event.
‘Reading is Magic’ explores several themes, how reading can take you to other worlds or places in our imagination, how reading helps you to explore new ideas and gives us a greater understanding of the people and the world around us. The magic of both fiction and nonfiction categories promote a love of lifetime reading.
