Term 4 Week 4 Newsletter
From The Principal
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Welcome to Week 4 of a busy Term 4. I trust families are well and truly into the school routine by now, although it seems like we have no sooner started the term and the end of the term is around the corner. Mid term is the middle of next week! I do often say that I would prefer the last term of the year to be the longest term, as there are so many wonderful school and community events to take part in.
Yesterday we welcomed the 2022 Prep students and their families to the school for our Prep Orientation Morning. We had our existing families and new families join together for this event. This enabled the children to spend time with all students who will be in their class next year, as well as meeting their teacher and the school officer who is allocated to their class. Upon arrival yesterday morning, families were met by members of administration and six of our Year 5 students. They were given a Prep Orientation Pack and escorted to their Prep class by the Year 5 students. These students did a great job, with many positive comments made about their politeness and helpfulness, they were certainly modelling the Joey’s Way. Once the Pre Preps were settled, and reports are that this was a relatively smooth transition, parents met in the Library for morning tea and an information session. A number of key people spoke other than staff, including our P & F President, Sarah Ponti, Charissa from OSHC and Rae from School Locker. Children were collected from classes just before the bell at first break, and appeared to have enjoyed their introduction to Prep. I look forward to our 2022 Preps being part of the St Joseph’s school community next year and warmly welcome our new families. I trust your association with our school will be both satisfying and positive.
Congratulations to Mrs Cantoni and the Year 5 and 6 students who attended the Gala Robotics Competition at Annandale Christian College on Monday. According to Mrs Cantoni, all teams participated extremely well and proudly represented our school. She was very proud of their efforts and teamwork skills.
Two competitions ran throughout the day, a dance competition and a battle competition. Students were provided a mindstorms EV3 kit and laptop upon arrival. Their project was to design and build a robot from scratch and then program it on the day. Students worked extremely hard from the moment they arrived and some students didn't even want to stop for lunch. The boys selected the Battlebot Competition and the girls selected the Dance Competition.
One of our Year 5 teams came first in the Battlebot Competition and went throughout the day undefeated. Our second team placed third, with Cathedral school taking out second place. In the Robot Dance competition, we had one of our teams place second and the other team place fourth. Annandale Christian College took first place for this competition and Townsville Grammar placed third. Well done to all involved.
Have a wonderful week.
God Bless
Tracy

Grandparent's Day
What a wonderful way to start this week.
Our school assembly this Monday was a celebration of Grandparents.
Thank you to Mrs Hutchison and 6B for leading the school in such a beautiful Liturgy, reinforcing the importance of Grandparents and what they mean to us.
Thank you to all the Grandparents for being there. It was wonderful to see so many happy smiling faces. We hope you enjoyed your visit.

Mission Stalls
Last Friday we celebrated Mission Week with Yr 6 organising the Mission Stalls. What a wonderful morning and how hard the Yr 6’s worked. They are going to be great business people, handling the money, encouraging other students to buy and generally selling all that was on display.
It was lovely to see the kindness and care the Yr 6’s showed to the younger children when encouraging them to part with their money. Well done to the whole school, to all the parents, carers and friends for donating so generously and especially to Mrs Luton, Mrs Hutchison and all the Students of Yr6. Without you it couldn't have happened. Thank you, we had a lovely morning and in the process we raised over $2000 for a wonderful cause.
SOCK IT TO POVERTY - Soccer challenge
The money raised from our Mission Day stalls all goes to the Catholic Missions and their biggest fundraising event - Sockotber.
Socktober is a time to 'sock' it to poverty around the world. Over the past few weeks the classes have been making their Socktober ball out of old clothes, paper, rubbish and socks. Over the next few weeks the children will have the opportunity to see if they can score a goal using one of these balls. For a coin donation goals can be kicked and even more money raised for the Catholic Missions.
Week 4, 5 and 6 children will have the opportunity of kicking goals for Socktober.

Joey’s Way for this week “Own My Actions”
Next week 1B will lead the school in the Monday morning Assembly when we will celebrate the feast of “All Saints”. All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows' Day, Hallowmas, the Feast of All Saints, or Solemnity of All Saints, is a Christian solemnity celebrated in honour of all the saints of the church, whether they are known or unknown. The eve before All Saints Day became known as Hallow’s Eve meaning the eve or night before All Hallows.
Mass: Sunday 31st October 2021
This Sunday, 31st October, our Parish Mass at 7.30am, will be a celebration for our Sacramental children. It will be a wonderful opportunity to affirm the celebrations of First Eucharist and Confirmation which they received in September. The Mass will be followed by the cutting of a cake and the children will receive their confirmation certificates. We hope to see as many as possible of this year’s Sacramental children at Mass. A small plate of food to share would be greatly appreciated. Please leave at the tuckshop prior to Mass.
Another busy week culminating on Friday with Day for Daniel.
Enjoy the week and many blessings
